Ohio’s healthcare industry is world-renowned for innovative treatments in fields from heart disease to pediatrics. Researchers from the Cleveland Clinic, the Ohio State University, and Case Western Reserve University will present recent advances in neurosurgery, the National Institutes of Health’s BRAIN Initiative, neurostimulation/neuromodulation, and limb restoration technology, as well as highlighting each institution’s plans for the future of neuroscience research and innovation.

Andre Machado

Andre Machado, MD, PhD, is the Chairman of the Neurological Institute at the Cleveland Clinic and Associate Chief of Staff, leading several enterprise-level projects. Dr. Machado conducts research in deep brain stimulation for movement disorders and post-stroke recovery and is a Co-PI of the Cleveland Clinic Brain Study.

Timothy Lucas, Neurosurgeon and CEO, Neurotech Institute, Ohio State University

Dustin Tyler

Tim Lucas, MD, PhD, MHCI, is a neurosurgeon, engineer, business executive and serial Ironman. Lucas is the founder and CEO of the NeuroTech Institute, a non-profit biotechnology venture studio located in Columbus, Ohio. Lucas is a principal investigator on NIH awards developing novel treatments for neurological, psychiatric, and genetic disorders.

Dustin Tyler, Director, Human Fusions Institute, Case Western Reserve University

Dustin Tyler, PhD, is a world expert in neural interfaces and sensory perception with publications in Nature, Science, and press coverage including 60 Minutes and PBS. He is a Fellow in National Academy of Inventors, Chaired Professor at Case Western Reserve University, Director of the Human Fusions Institute, and scientist in the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Sarah Hiddleston is a freelance journalist who has worked with Nature Research Custom Media since 2015. Previously, Sarah worked for a decade in Madras (Chennai), India, specialising in health, pharmaceutical and environmental stories. Sarah holds an MA in Investigative Journalism from City University London, an MSc in Political Theory from the London School of Economics, and an undergraduate degree in History from the University of Cambridge, UK.
