Clinical communication alternatives to WhatsApp have been proved in practice

There is no need for the NHS to spend £20m or wait six months to build an “end-to-end encrypted NHS approved app linked to NHS mail.”1 The Pando secure clinical communication app has been available to all clinicians with an NHS email for several years and has a user base of over 75 000 clinicians. In the Defence Medical Services we use Pando routinely to provide our “anywhere to anywhere” clinical communications.2 This not only tackles the significant security problems of consumer messaging apps but also supports clinical workflow. This allows us to provide a deployed telemedicine system that improves patient care and increases efficiency.
