Mental Health and Disability Services within the Western Trust are in the midst of a significant change process. Within the past 10 years there has been a shift to more community focussed care including the development of Crisis Response Home Treatment Services. Alongside this, there has been an increased emphasis on consultant psychiatrists providing a high standard of care in the community, through the Primary Care Liaison and Recovery Teams.

The Western Health and Social Care Trust has the following hospitals – Altnagelvin Area Hospital based in Londonderry, South West Acute (SWAH) based in Enniskillen and Omagh Hospital and Primary Care Complex (a local hospital) in Omagh. The Trust’s catchment area covers 4,842 square kilometres. We provide services to a population of approximately 300,000 people, have an expenditure of £680 million and employ a workforce of almost 12,500 staff.

In the local area, there is a new graduate entry medical school in Londonderry, and the Pathfinder project is reviewing service design and delivery in Fermanagh/South Tyrone. There are already established links with the University of Ulster and cross border links with HSE are nurtured via the Cooperation and Working Together (CAWT) project.

There are excellent schools, cultural and leisure opportunities through the entire trust area; from blue flag beach at Benone, through the historic walled city of Derry, via the Sperrins to the Fermanagh lakes, as well as the benefits of living close to the border and the Wild Atlantic Way.

Transport links and infrastructure continue to improve with development of roads and rail connections. City of Derry airport is now flying to London, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Liverpool and Manchester.

Closing date: Friday 22 September 2023 at 3:30pm.
