This specialist workshop is one of a series of events organised by the Heart of Frontline Practice Alliance to support frontline practitioners’ health and wellbeing.
A national conference will follow on Tuesday, May 30, at Nano Nagle Place, in Cork.
Open to all frontline practitioners working in health, social care, social work and education, the theme of this year’s event is Connecting with Compassion in Diverse and Complex Settings.
Dr Maeve Hurley, one of the collaborators behind the Heart of Frontline Practice alliance, said: “We know that so much of patient satisfaction and clinician satisfaction stems from the interpersonal communication and relationship.
“We also know that complaints and dissatisfaction often arise because of lack of communication and interpersonal connection. Our hope is that this workshop and our conference help us to connect with what drew us into the work, which is so often a desire to connect and help others, which is increasingly challenging in today’s complex and challenging settings.”
Guest speakers at the conference are Dr Tom A. Hutchinson, Professor, Department of Medicine and Department of Oncology and Director, McGill Programs in Whole Person Care, Canada; Dr Naomi Masheti and Fionnuala O’Connell from Cork Migrant Centre, and Marianne Adams, a senior art therapist and senior lecturer in MTU’s Art Psychotherapy Department in Cork.
Each will share insight and experiences of how relating in a person-centred, compassionate way in work settings impacts positively on health and wellbeing outcomes for all. This one-day event has also been given CPD approval by the Royal College of Physicians Ireland (RCPI) and it will include interactive plenary sessions and facilitated break-out spaces.
The subsidised fee for this immersive one-day conference is €50 per person via Eventbrite or by emailing robyn.pinkham@relationshipsinpractice.ie.
